Buchstabenmuseum Berlin: Overview and Latest News Closing Announcement The Buchstabenmuseum Berlin will close on 5 October 2025 after 20 years of operation. Until closing, the museum is open Thursday to Sunday, 1–5 pm. Visits outside opening hours are possible through guided tours (contact: visit@buchstabenmuseum.de). The museum is seeking long-term storage solutions for its collection and requests support via donations: Donation link on Betterplace 20th Anniversary Celebration On Saturday, 14 June 2025, 3–9 pm: a birthday party with presentations. Launch of a colorful anniversary brochure. Talk by Sabrina Hauck (TU Berlin architect) at 18:00 on Berlin’s S-Bahn arches' use, vacancy, and potential. Featured Exhibition: FINAL SALE – From Department Stores to Museum Extended until Autumn 2025. Focuses on the disappearing corporate lettering of former department stores like Horten, Quelle, Hertie, Kaufhof, and Karstadt. The exhibition tells the typographic and urban-historical stories of these storefront letters. Visitors can explore iconic letters and purchase selected items. Located in the Stadtbahnbögen at Hansaviertel, Berlin. About the Buchstabenmuseum The first museum worldwide dedicated to collecting and preserving three-dimensional letters and signage from public spaces. Focuses on preservation, documentation, and sharing the history and construction of letterforms as part of urban heritage. The collection draws visitors internationally and saves historic letters from damage or scrapping. A selection of letters and signage is available under the Collection section on the website. Activities and Services Cooperation with the Staatsbibliothek Berlin, featuring selected letters pointing to the in-house museum "Kulturwerk". Individual guided tours available to learn about the collection and stories behind the letters. Neon classes teaching the basics of glass and neon bending craft. BM-Studio offers support for events and building signage, providing rare characters like A, Æ, or Å.
